Years of experience in breeding and raising puppies have allowed us to gain extensive knowledge and understanding of puppy world. We offer life long support for all of our puppy families. Here you can find a few tips and suggestions to help prepare for your new addition to your family.
Supplies- Food (we will inform you a week before pick up what kind of food they are eating.) treats, bowls, leash/collar, crate or pen, bed, toys, comb and brush, shampoo, nail clippers and ear cleaner.
Your puppy will come current on vaccines, they are needed at 8 weeks, 12 weeks and 16 weeks. Our health guarantee and Florida State law requires new owners to have their puppy examined by a veterinarian within 3 business days of bringing them home. Please schedule that in advance.
Establish routines, rules and boundaries with everyone in the house. Jumping up on people, mouthing, feeding table scraps and playing with shoes are a few examples.
Transport- If we are flying or driving your puppy to you, please discuss that with us as soon as possible so we can make appropriate arrangements. Most airlines allow under 20 pounds in cabin, this includes the carrier and blanket. Newfypoos can weigh that by 9 weeks. We do not ship puppies in cargo.
Puppies will have a vet exam and vaccines at 8 weeks. We monitor them for 24 hours before they can go to their new homes. The week prior, we will begin scheduling pick up times. Please select a time that allows you and your puppy time to bond before going to bed or leaving your puppy alone.
When you receive your puppy you will sign the no breeding contract/health guarantee. You will receive a health certificate to take to your vet appointment as well as a sample of food, probiotics, blanket and toy with familiar smells.
Bringing your new family member home is an exciting day. It can also be confusing for puppies. They are leaving their mom, litter mates, caretakers and the routine they are familiar with. Each puppy adapts differently, some take a few hours and some take several days. It would be similar to a person waking up in a different country and not knowing anything about the culture/environment. Try to not overwhelm your new puppy and introduce new things slowly, most importantly be patient.
They eat 3x per day here. 8am/1-2pm and 7pm. Over feeding can cause loose stools. If they eat too fast, you can use a slow feed bowl or place a tennis ball in the bowl to slow down eating.
Our puppies are dog door potty trained when they leave here. The first couple weeks, take them out often, use the same command word every time and praise each time they potty outside. They will need to go out after eating, sleeping and every half hour to an hour during awake times. Most will need to go out one time in the night until they are able to hold it longer and develop a routine. Limit water and hour before bedtime if they are having trouble at night.
These puppies learn and grow fast, so start your routine and establish rules from day one and begin mini training sessions, be consistent. Let your puppy explore at their own pace to build confidence. Puppies grow into balanced, well behaved dogs when they feel safe and have rules and routines.
Do not take your puppy into public places until they have been fully vaccinated.
Puppies need mental and physical stimulation. Bored puppies are mischievous puppies. Rotate toys often, use puzzle toys, training sessions, walks and exploring new sights and smells are great ways to stimulate your puppy.
Every day is a new adventure, enjoy every moment!
